China "Going Out"

China uses climate fears to weaken the West while strengthening itself

The Chinese Communist Party knows that if they don’t keep the lights on, they’re in danger of being toppled. They need fossil fuels to appease a hungry nation and they will happily take what the West leaves behind at its peril. Probe International’s Patricia Adams gets into it in From the Stacks.

In a recent appearance on the From the Stacks series with Dr. E. Calvin Beisner, founder of the U.S.-based Christian public policy group, Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation, Probe International’s Patricia Adams discussed her new report, “China’s Energy Dream” and how the communist party regime has utilized climate change to both manipulate and enthral western environmentalists and politicians, undermine their economies, and further their own ends to secure world domination.

A lot of very nasty stuff comes out of tailpipes and smokestacks, but you can contain them. We have in the West and the reason we contained them is because we have democracies and we have the rule of law.

SUMMARY

What does China want?

According to Adams, the Chinese Communist Party, under President Xi Jinping, has its sights set on world domination by 2049 — a potent date, irrespective of Xi’s longevity, that will mark 100 years of Party power under communism. In order to claim this crown, the CCP must remain in power and control threats from within that might destabilize them. The primary threat to their stability is from the populace and the nation’s need for energy security, a term we hear again and again from CCP officials. If they don’t keep the lights on, they’re in danger of being toppled.

Adams says encouraging other nations to pursue a net-zero agenda and ween themselves off fossil fuels, frees up more of those resources for China, and also generates business for the country’s renewable energy industry. Renewable energy, however, is not reliable enough to feed the appetite of industrial nations. Fossil fuels are the basis of our modern economies but we don’t have to pollute. Says Adams:

“When it comes to climate change, we need to be sensible and realize that our economies run on fossil fuels. Yes. When you burn fossil fuels, you get a lot of nasty emissions: NOx and SOx, particulates and things that will kill people and do kill people. In China, [they kill] maybe as many as half-a-million a year.

“A lot of very nasty stuff comes out of tailpipes and smokestacks, but you can contain them. We have in the West and the reason we contained them is because we have democracies and we have the rule of law. The public says to politicians, ‘I’m not going to breathe that stuff, it’s hurting me and my children and family.’ So, politicians bring in policies to bring in scrubbers, catalytic converters, and whatever else, to contain emissions. Over the last thirty to forty years, as fossil fuel consumption has gone up, GDP has gone up, C02 emissions have gone up, the killer pollutants have gone down massively.

“That’s what the public in China want. They want rule of law so they can protect their health and the health of their children and their families. They don’t have these tools to enforce accountability on politicians and companies.”
