(May 14, 2009) While the debate surrounding the effect the Zipingpu dam in China may have had on the deadly 2008 earthquake in Sichuan continues, the toll on citizens that once lived on the banks of the Yangtze is increasingly well documented. PBS recently made its production “Great Wall Across the Yangtze”.
[video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9aU43suUvg autoplay:0]Although parts of the movie are dated, as the dam is now complete and the movie was made in 2,000, it does offer both stunning footage of the Yangtze and the effect the dam has had on archeological sites and the people living on its banks. It also provides a clear warning of the potential damage the dam could cause if it ever collapses.
Probe International Fellow Dai Qing also plays a prominent role in the film.
