July 30, 2001 — PBS and KQED public television rebroadcast the “Great Wall Across the Yangtze” last night at 6 p.m. – the fourth broadcast since this documentary on the Three Gorges dam premiered in October 2000. “Great Wall Across the Yangtze,” narrated by actor Martin Sheen, was ‘Pick of the Week’ at the time of its premiere and received the Grand Festival Award for Environmental Documentary at the Berkeley Film Festival in France. “Great Wall” is currently under consideration for a Dupont award. “Great Wall Across the Yangtze”: Shooting without government authorization, filmmaker Ellen Perry enters China’s heartland to reveal the unique heritage and beauty of the Yangtze River as she explores the profound changes the Three Gorges dam will bring to China’s people. This documentary also features footage of renown Three Gorges dam opponent and Probe International fellow, Dai Qing.
