On the morning of July 28, Beijing Office of Legislative Affairs published a draft of their plan to establish a fee system for renewable water on its official website. The draft, entitled “Methods of Managing Water Drainage and Reuse in Beijing (draft)” was published in order to get opinions and advice from the public.
The draft stipulated that the price of Beijing’s recycled water would be specified by the price control department of Beijing Municipal Government in accordance with relevant national provisions, and would take effect after publication. If the price of renewable water cannot make up for water supply costs, the Department of Public Finance will establish a system of subsidy. From now until August 13, residents who are interested in the draft can log on to the official website of the Office of Legislative Affairs to express their views and make suggestions.
According to the Office of Legislative Affairs of Beijing Municipal Government, Beijing is a large city with a serious lack of water resources. They believe that due to Beijing’s geographic location, it should rely on local water resources in order to solve the demands of its developing society and economy. In recent years, renewable water, as an important resource, has been included in comprehensive plans for Beijing’s water resources.
