U.S.-based ITT Industries wins environmental contracts for Suzhou river, Three Gorges dam

ITT Industries, U.S.-based company, announced that along with its Chinese partners it had won contracts totaling 15 million renminbi (US$1.81 million) for two major engineering projects

ITT Industries has been pumping major contracts into China recently. The U.S.-based company, one of the world’s largest pump manufacturing groups, announced on Nov. 8 that along with its Chinese partners it had won contracts totaling 15 million renminbi (US$1.81 million) for two major engineering projects. The two projects are the Suzhou River clean-up project in Shanghai and the permanent ship lock construction project for the Three Gorges Dam in Hubei province, according to the Nov. 9 Zhongguo Jingji Shibao (China Economic Times). Under the Rmb 10 million (US$1.21 million) Suzhou River clean-up project contract, ITT will provide 30 underwater pumps ranging from 30 kilowatts to 215 kilowatts. The pumps will help control discharges into the Suzhou River. Nanjing Goulds Pump Co., a subsidiary of ITT Industries based in Jiangsu province, has won the Rmb 5 million (US$604,595) contract to provide 48 deep-well pumps for the five permanent ship locks to be built in the Yichang section of the Yangtze River in Hubei as part of the Three Gorges Dam project (click here to see map). The proposed chain of locks is designed to render navigable the160-meter (525-foot) water drop in the Yichang section of the dam. ITT Industries has invested more than US$100 million in China and employs 7,000 people.
