China’s Three Gorges Project Committee has announced measures to protect the environment in the Three Gorges area, Xinhua reported on Nov 22.

The office said it will draft plans to guarantee water supply for relocated people, prevent cities, towns, villages and businesses from dumping pollutants into the reservoir, improve protection of biological diversity in the area, and establish an environmental monitoring and emergency response mechanism in case of water pollution accidents. “We want to build a first-class hydropower facility out of the project, but we also aim for a good environment,” the office said in its statement.
