Chongqing mayor Wang Hongju told press in Bejing on October 15th that the Three Gorges Project has “not destroyed the local environment.”
Contradicting earlier reports for government officials, including Yangtze (Changjiang) Water Resources Commission director Weng Lida, Wang said that water in the Chongqing section of the Yangtze River is 100 percent good, with 90 percent of water along the city shoreline ranked “class 2” (5 being the worst on a scale of 1 to 5).
