Beijing: China’s breakneck growth took its worst ever toll on the environment last year, the state media said today quoting a report that revealed serious pollution spills are occurring almost every other day.
… But in a sign of the increased powers being given to SEPA, officials have introduced a name, shame and blacklist approach to the worst offenders. Mr Pan revealed that four power producers and four cities would be barred from launching new projects until they have cleaned up their existing facilities. … Four of the country’s five main utilities were blacklisted: Datang International Power Generation, China Huaneng Group, China Huadian Corporation and China Guodian Corporation.
