.K.-based debt campaigner Jubilee Iraq claims not a single newspaper has reported Iraq was forced to pay another US$184,568,674.54 in war reparations on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004. According to Jubilee Iraq, reparations paid by Iraq to the United Nations Compensation Committee in the last year far exceed the cap on reparations set at five percent of oil revenues, authorized by the Security Council’s Resolution 1483. The Committee disperses cash from oil revenues to compensate people and companies harmed by Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990.
