Another mammoth project to come under the spotlight will be the Three Gorges Dam.’
China’s state auditor will extend the search for corruption in the government in the new year, to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The audit could shine unprecedented light on the Beijing Olympic organizing committee, which is overseeing the massive undertaking of getting the Chinese capital ready for the Games. The organizing committee’s income, expenses and the progress in the construction of competition venues will be among the 5 main areas to be audited in 2006. Another mammoth project to come under the spotlight will be the Three Gorges Dam, which is the world’s largest hydroelectric power plant. Audits for the first 11 months in China of this year uncovered some 36 billion US dollars of illegal government funds.
