Zheng Jianchao, a member of China’s Academy of Engineering and the director of a water conservancy and hydropower electricity academy for the Ministry of Water Resources, called for consideration of market demand for two proposed big dams upstream of the Three Gorges project, reports Sanxia gongcheng bao (Three Gorges Project Daily). Mr. Zheng warned of the Ertan dam experience and the lack of customers for its electricity. He said further studies examining the relationship between the Three Gorges dam and the national power grid, and the management and maintenance of dams and dam equipment were needed, given the massive scale and complexity of the Three Gorges project.
