Preparatory work related to the Liuku dam on the Nu River is proceeding, this media report indicates.
On 6 March, the inspection team for the Yunnan Resettlement Work Panel came to Liuku to give advice on the dam resettlement work. The inspection team listened to the reports from the Nujiang Prefecture Resettlement Bureau and Lushui County Government, and recognised the effectiveness of the preparation work in Liuku dam resettlement, with the high level of attention from the prefecture government and party committee, and cooperation from all levels of government departments of Nujiang Prefecture. The inspection team fully affirmed the measures that promote the dam resettlement work using the approach towards a Socialist New Rural Village. Since the preparation work for Liuku dam resettlement started last October, several studies including “Planning and Design for Miao-gan-tian (Seedling Trunk Field) relocation”, “Proposals for Liuku dam resettlement” and the Risk Assessment for geological harzards of the new sites for Miao-gan-tian relocation, will be submitted to the Provincial and Prefecture government for review. To speed up the construction of Miao-gan-tian new sites and enhance the leadership for resettlement work, Lushui County set up the specialised agencies including the Lushui Prefecture Resettlement Work Panel for a Socialist New Village and Pilot sites construction headquarter on 1 March. So far, both the Propaganda and Mobilisation group and Land Acquisition and Resettlement group have started their work in the villages, and set off the relocation work for the rope-way bridge, residue field, temporary campsites and Miao-gan-tian pilot sites. The The National Land and Resources departments at Provincial, Prefecture and County levels have respectively reviewed and approved the land planning related to Liuku dam, which requires 59.9033 hectare. With the on-site recognition of the Lushui County National Land and Resources Office, compensation agreement for the temporary land acquisition has been signed with the village committee, according to the regulations, on the preliminary designation area of land acquisition, types, ownership, area of land and the attachments on the ground. Du Shaolin, the deputy governor of Nujiang Prefecture, stressed in the briefing session that Liuku dam resettlement work must be quickly implemented, under the policy framework, to ensure its completion within a required timeframe by Prefecture’s Party committee and government.
