Yuen’s 2015 Beijing visit and community affiliations under new scrutiny in Carney’s campaign.

Summary
Newly uncovered Chinese media records reveal that Peter Yuen, a Liberal candidate for the 2025 federal election, was invited by a United Front-linked office to attend Xi Jinping’s 2015 military parade in Beijing. This revelation intensifies scrutiny of Mark Carney’s judgment and the Liberal Party’s ties to Beijing-linked influence networks.
Peter Yuen, then a senior Toronto police officer, attended the 2015 military parade in Tiananmen Square as part of a small delegation of Ontario politicians. The event was hosted by President Xi Jinping and commemorated China’s victory over Japan in World War II.
The delegation was invited by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, an arm of the Chinese Communist Party’s United Front Work Department. This department is identified by Ottawa’s Hogue Commission as playing a central role in foreign interference in Canadian federal elections.
The parade featured strong anti-Japanese sentiment and showcased China’s military power. Canadian attendees later helped pass Ontario’s bill to establish a Nanjing Massacre Memorial Day and monument, aligning with Beijing’s geopolitical stance.
Yuen has connections to several Chinese-linked organizations in Toronto, including the Jiangsu Commerce Council of Canada (JCCC) and the Confederation of Toronto Chinese Canadian Organizations (CTCCO), both with ties to the United Front Work Department. Yuen has also been involved with the Toronto branch of Chinese Freemasons, which advocates for the peaceful reunification of China and Taiwan, a stance rejected by the Taiwanese government.
This newly revealed information raises the level of concern about the extent of Chinese influence in Canadian politics, particularly with regard to the Liberal Party. [See: Liberal MP Paul Chiang Steps Down Over “Bounty” Remarks]
