Despite significant accusations made by independent Member of Parliament Kevin Vuong, investigative journalist Sam Cooper, and two former bureaucrats at a press conference on Parliament Hill this Monday, Canada’s legacy media has largely ignored the story.

The accusations include claims that International Trade Minister Mary Ng was unwittingly involved in a Chinese interference scheme during the 2019 federal election, and that Liberal MP Parm Bains and current Senator Yuen Pau Woo have ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Minister Mary Ng has denied the allegations exposed publicly by Sam Cooper, in turn accusing him of being a conspiracy theorist. The press conference, where these accusations were made, received minimal attention from the media, with only one question being asked by a reporter from the Toronto Sun.

Sam Cooper’s book, “Willful Blindness,” discusses investigations that began in early 2019, where, according to national security sources, Mary Ng was identified as one of 11 Toronto-area candidates clandestinely supported by Chinese consulate and United Front influence networks in the 2019 election. Cooper also named Parm Bains as a beneficiary of CCP election interference operations.

Senator Yuen Pau Woo has been criticized for his opposition to a foreign agent registry and for comparing the Uyghur genocide in China to Canada’s residential school system. Both Senator Woo and former Conservative Senator Victor Oh, who is also accused of ties to the CCP, have organized protests against the foreign agent registry and have been celebrated by the Chinese Consulate for their work.

Kevin Vuong further addressed his allegations in the House of Commons, questioning Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about the 11 parliamentarians allegedly in the pocket of China. Trudeau responded by criticizing Vuong’s display as “disgraceful” and “unserious”.

Trudeau has also mentioned a list of Conservative politicians accused of working on behalf of hostile foreign nations, but has not released the names.
