French-owned Alstom Hydro recently signed a contract to supply turbines to Yunnan Lancangjiang Hydro Development Company, as part of a US$284 million deal with Chinese power companies.
Yunnan Lancangjiang Hydro Development Company is the state owned company building a string of large hydro dams on the Lancangjiang (as the Mekong river is known in Yunnan province).
According to Alstom Hydro’s October 11 statement, the company has signed four contracts in China:
- 3 x 650 MW generators for the Nuo Zhadu hydropower station (Yunnan Province), for Yunnan Lancangjiang Hydro Development Company
- 8 x 600 MW generators for the Jinping II hydropower station (Sichuan Province), for Ertan Hydro Power Development Company
- 4 x 280 MW generators for the Shatuo hydropower station (Guizhou Province), for Wujiang Hydroelectric Development Corporation; and
- 3 x 84 MW turbine/generator units for the Longjiang hydropower station (Yunnan Province), for Yunnan LongJiang Water Conservancy Development.
Alstom Hydro’s local unit, Tianjin Alstom Hydro Equipment Co. Ltd, is in charge of project management, design, engineering, manufacturing and commissioning of equipment. As one of Alstom’s largest manufacturing units, Tianjin Alstom Hydro Equipment Co. Ltd has more than one thousand employees and a factory with the capacity to manufacture turbines and generators for all hydro applications, serving Chinese and global markets.
