Seventeen officials, seven private firms and the late politician Yingphan Manasikarn were involved in irregularities in the Klong Dan wastewater treatment plant project, according to the findings of a police investigation.
The probe report would be sent to the National Counter Corruption Commission this week for further action. The decision came after a two-hour meeting between assistant national police chief Pol Lt-Gen Suthep Thammarak, head of the probe panel, and senior Crime Suppression Division officials studying the investigation report.
A source said involvement of 17 government officials, seven private firms and their executives and Yingphan had been confirmed.
Among the officials named were Prakit Kirawanit, former chief of the Pollution Control Department; Sirithan Pairoj-Boriboon, former chief of the Environmental Quality Promotion Department; Yuwaree In-na, former head of the Water Quality Management Division;
Samit Palwatwichai, chief of the Phetchaburi provincial administration office; Narong Kaewsawetphan, head of the Finance Ministry’s loan section; Chanin Thongthammachart, head of the Water Management Office (WMO); Chanan Tiranarat, an environmental expert from the WMO; and Klaew Thongsom, head of the Treasury Department’s property valuation bureau.
The seven private firms implicated were Palm Beach Development Co, Klong Dan Marine and Fisheries Co, Vichitbhan Construction Co, Prayoonvisava Engineering Co, Si Sang Karn Yotha (1997) Co, Krungthon Engineering Co and Gateway Development Co.
