Probe International’s executive director, Patricia Adams, joined 10 other distinguished Canadians on the Committee of Advisors for the 2004 visit to Canada of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. At a meeting on April 23 with His Holiness, Ms. Adams introduced the work of Probe International, a foreign-aid watchdog, and, in particular, its efforts to stop destructive dam-building by the Chinese government and its implications for Tibet. A lively discussion followed on why environmental policies that are good for Tibetans are also good for Chinese citizens and how Canadian environmentalists could help to protect the sensitive ecology of the Tibetan Plateau.
