The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand will sign a power purchase agreement  with Nam Theun 2 Power Co., the developer of a Laos hydroelectric power project in March, the Krungthep Turakij newspaper reports.

BANGKOK (Dow Jones) —  The report quotes Chanaphun Kridakorn, EGAT’s deputy governor for policy planning. Under the contract, EGAT will buy 920 megawatts a year of the total capacity of 1,070 MW from the Num Theun 2 project for 25 years. The electricity will be distributed to endusers in Thailand. The remainder of the electricity from the project will be supplied to Laos. The power purchase agreement was originally to be signed in June last year, but has been delayed due to several sticking points. The Nam Theun 2 consortium is led by Electricite de France (F.EDF), which has a 35% stake in the US$1.2
billion hydroelectric power project. The Laotian government holds a 25% stake and Italian-Thai Development PCL (H.ITD) owns a 15% stake. Electricity Generating Public Co. holds the remaining 25% stake.
