A five-part television series on the controversial project. This five-part series on India’s controversial Narmada dam project airs from November 20-24, 2000, and focuses on the project’s effects on archaeological sites and monuments, fisherpeople, shopkeepers, drinking water, industry, and the World Commission on Dams. Under construction since 1979, the Narmada dams have already displaced tens of thousands of people and the Indian government is determined to complete it despite massive opposition. The World Bank pulled out of the project in 1993 following an unprecedented campaign by citizens groups from all over the world, including Probe International.
