(January 23, 2011) It was touch-and-go for Export Development Canada last October when Bill C-300, which would have cut off  EDC funding of Canadian mining companies that violate human and environmental rights in Third World countries, was narrowly defeated in the House of Commons. EDC, Canada’s Crown export credit agency, provides generous subsidies to the country’s mining industry, courtesy of Canadian taxpayers. To see who in the mining industry is receiving EDC support, and how much, Probe International—a long-time EDC watchdog—has compiled this up-to-date list of mining companies on the dole.
